What a PTA Spends Funds On

A PTA can organise

  • Money towards trips, including paying for the coach travel
  • An annual zoo pass so every child gets to visit the zoo yearly
  • A visit from a storytelling performer or bringing the travelling panto to the school every Christmas
  • An annual trip to the local panto
  • Leavers disco/prom
  • Money towards supporting the school’s themes and bringing them to life e.g. activity week
  • New parents events – cocktails and canapes is a great idea to attract new parents to the PTA

Activities and sport

  • Sports kits e.g. football and netball teams
  • Indoor and outdoor sports equipment
  • Items for the Duke of Edinburgh camping trip
  • Money to keep extra curricular clubs running e.g. gardening or art club
  • Playground equipment like scooters, trikes, helmets, balls and other toys
  • Swimming lessons

Support learning

  • Technology e.g. laptops, iPads and smartboards
  • Specific books or equipment for special needs pupils e.g. sensory items
  • Library books – in one case, a complete library!
  • Oxford or foreign language dictionaries
  • Art table and art supplies
  • Outdoor learning e.g. items for a forest school
  • Training courses for parents and pupils e.g. workshops on wellbeing and online safety
  • Pupil achievement awards e.g. annual prize giving/presentation event

Equipment and school improvement

  • A life-saving defibrillator
  • A projector, music or PA system for the main hall
  • A new stage
  • Book bags for all new starters
  • Library seating/furniture
  • Playground improvements such as shading, play equipment, sandpit, climbing wall, mud kitchen, buddy bench and all-weather surfacing for outdoor play areas
  • Expanding the pond area for outdoor learning
  • Event equipment e.g. mobile catering, BBQ and tea urn

Little extras

  • Leavers gifts including yearbooks and hoodies
  • Christmas goodies like party hats, balloons and crackers for all pupils
  • Small Christmas/birthday/end of term gifts for all pupils
  • Christmas decorations
  • Easter eggs for a treasure hunt
  • Ice lolly’s for sports day
  • Games for inside when it’s raining – some let the class choose their own!
  • A top up of fruit every week
  • An author coming to school to support creative writing to tie in with the new curriculum
